THE HUNT FOR A SEDUCTIVE STILL LIFE
“How do you spread your genes around when you’re stuck in one place? […] The Orchid offers no nectar or pollen reward; rather, it seduces male bees with the promise of bee sex […]. The Orchid accomplishes its sexual deception by mimicking the appearance, scent and even the tactile experience of a female” (Pollan, 2009). From this starting point Catalina structured her collection of bodypieces as a manipulative stimulation of the different senses, mainly view, touch and smell. Her pieces captivate the sight with bold colours, evolve by stimulating tactility and when closer to the body evoke smell and touch again, finally culminating in a threatening dripping piece.
