Di Gao’s collection is based on Chinese traditional architecture and its perfect combination of function and decoration. She tried to transfer this unique architectural system using her own craftsmanship language, building on the human body. Textile is crocheted using copper wire and yarn to create a stretchy function inspired by the traditional flexibility of joinery structures, changing the volume through body movement. What at first sight appears like very rigid and structural pieces are actually light creations that can be altered by pulling a string which allows the pieces to transform in an instant.
